Git is a version control system and github is a repository where the code that uses the git version control is stored. Github apart from storing the code would also show you the number of commits and who has made the changes.
The same thing can be seen from the git console itself. We can see the list of commits that were made and when they were made.
All you have to do is type git log in the console.
