In order to Install Office 365 one would have to follow these steps-
- Login to the http://portal.office.com
- Then click on Install Office.
- After installing Office 365 , activate the Office suite using your Office 365 credentials.
The Installation time might vary from 20-30 minutes depending on your Internet connection. In order to check the status or the progress of the Installation, click on the tray icon that says Office 365.
I had written a blog about 3 months ago regarding Uninstalling Office 365. There is another way to do this which appears to be more efficient. All you have to do is click on this link . This would take you to a Microsoft Office page regarding Uninstalling Office 365. It would show 3 options, we are going to follow the 2nd option ie- Completely uninstall Office with the easy fix tool.
Click on the Download button and the tool would take care of the rest. This is a recommended method by the Microsoft Tech. Support Team and it would always make sense to follow this 🙂
SharePoint is the cloud sibling of the SharePoint family. It comes with your Office 365 Subscription. Microsoft Initially built SharePoint solely for on-premises but since the launch of SharePoint Server 2013, they have also come out with their cloud product.
The advantages of SharePoint Online is the end users get acquainted with the latest features from Microsoft. It is easier for Microsoft to release new features to the cloud rather than the On-Premise version. Hence, the cloud version gets newer features and updates before the On-Premises Version.
With SharePoint Online and Office 365, Microsoft has created a new view or look for SharePoint itself. It translates to the entire SharePoint Online Infrastructure. There have been changes to the appearance of Items in the Menus and some of the menus which were quite prominent in the On-Premises version is not there. They have tried to make use of the Office 365 ribbon and have tried to transfer most of the functionality over there.
If a user is not comfortable with the the new look, he can switch over to the old view at any point of time. There is a link at the bottom left hand corner which says “Switch to Classic view”. There is a perceptible difference in the appearance of the old and new view, just to give you an Idea here is the view of a Document Library. This is a view from the New look

See the difference? The old view has a menu for the library which Includes difference functionality which is not there in the new view. So if you happen to be in the old view and want to come back to the new view, simply close your browser and open it again, this would delete the cookies associated with the old view.
Information Architecture deals with how Information in SharePoint is presented to the End Users. The goal of an Information Architect is to design and present Information in a way that it is easily accessible to the end users. They should be able to search for the Items that they are looking for.
Navigation is one of the aspects of Information Architecture. The Architect can control the way how the user maneuvers over the site. Another point while considering developing a good architecture is that it should be easily managed. After the process of Installation and migration, the IT department has to be in charge of the Intranet and it would make their lives better if it is easily manageable.
Organizing content is the next part of Information Architecture. Some content maybe sensitive and needs to be placed in a specific location of a site and some content should be displayed publicly among all users. The Architect needs to work with the Compliance Team of the company in order to find the requirements regarding organization of documents.
Folders are a good way to store files and documents but with SharePoint 2016 this is slowly becoming a thing of the past. Now the trend is to use metadata to tag documents. Metadata radically improves the search capabilities of SharePoint. Once documents are tagged they would appear in the Search Results based on the tag. And through metadata there is the ability to connect or link disparate sites. For Example you might be in the HR site collection, but through metadata you could also get results from other site collections as well. And another good thing about metadata is it eliminates redundancy in terms of document creation. With metadata, you wont have documents in two different site collections with the same file names.
Information Architecture is all about creating or design a proper structure and then organizing the content in a way so that end users can easily access them.
If we have to create a new personal email ID, the first thing which we have to do is create a unique username email@example.com. Nowadays, it is actually not possible to get the email ID we want because of the high number of users using services like Gmail. It’s very likely you would have people with the same first name and last name, so once you try to create an Email ID with that, it would say that it is not available.
For Companies, this is not the case. The company has it’s own email domain and it has the freedom to create the username of an email ID in whichever way it wants. Companies normally follow a naming policy in creating new email accounts for employees. For Example you might have a policy which says to use the first letter of the First Name and the last letter of the Last Name. Suppose we have a new employee whose name is Jacob Peterson. Following this policy his email ID would be firstname.lastname@example.org . Let’s say he leaves the company after 3 or 4 months and later we have a new employee whose name is Jim Phillips. So, following the policy the Exchange admin would create the email ID as email@example.com. Now, this is not a problem since Jacob has left the organization and there would be no conflict.
Outlook has unfortunately a good memory and it will not forget people easily! Even though the person has left the company, Outlook would still keep him in his list. Outlook has a feature called AutoComplete. This gives an End user the ability to add an email address in the address field just by typing a couple of letters. The autocomplete feature maps the name with the email ID. So if you had an employee say Robert Stevens, you could type certain letters like R, O, B and it would show up in the auto complete list. Once you select the name, Instead of showing firstname.lastname@example.org, it would show Robert Stevens.
Now because of this mapping, Outlook would be confused whether to stick with the original mapping email@example.com – Jacob Peterson or establish a new mapping firstname.lastname@example.org- Jim Phillips. And when we try to send an email with the address email@example.com, it might not get delivered since it uses the old mapping. We might get a message which would appear to be something like this

So, in order to resolve this we need to remove Jacob Peterson from the Auto Complete List. In order to do that one would have to follow these steps-
Steps to remove an entry from an Auto Complete List
- Open a New Email Message
- On the To Field, Type James
- Scroll down to the entry “Jim Phillips” and hit the Delete button.
Now, we have essentially removed the person from the memory of Outlook and Outlook would then map firstname.lastname@example.org with Jim Phillips.
Please note that in normal scenarios, Outlook should be able to resolve this normally. But as you all know Outlook is prone to Issues, so sometimes it doesn’t do it automatically.

A Wireframe is the diagrammatic layout of a website. It specifies how each element in the website is arranged. Having a Wireframe helps people to be organized and focused on the task at hand. This is an example of a Wireframe which shows the arrangement of different elements in a web page like the Site Logo, Navigational elements etc.
There are lot of tools out there to help you create Wireframes. Some are free and some offer paid versions. Here is a link which lists some of the wireframe tools.
With each passing day, we are witnessing an Increasing presence of companies on the Internet. Getting your brand on the web increases the probability of reaching out to a larger number of people. But in this day and age simply putting your website on the Internet is not enough, it needs to be ranked high on the results from search engines so that people looking for a product that you are dealing with can reach you. If you don’t take the required steps, your website would most likely go into a “Cyber Black hole” where no one can search for your website.
One of the simplest things a webmaster of your website could do is to create a Sitemap.
What is a Sitemap?
A Sitemap is an XML file which contains a list of URL’s for a site along with additional Information related to the URL like Last Modified, its Importance with reference to other URL’s, frequency of changes etc. This is an example of a sitemap which list the URL’s along with Information such as Last Modified, Frequency and Priority.
Web crawler is a common component used by every search engine. A web crawler basically goes through a page and extracts certain Information which can be used on the Search results. A Sitemap would actually help the Web crawler when it visits a site. It would know which URL’s to go to and the content to extract.
So creating a Sitemap is highly necessary in order to make your presence felt in the Internet.
