Chrome-Change Default Folder Location for Downloads

There might be times when you wanted to download a file/folder to a specific location in Windows rather than the default C:/Users/Downloads directory. One could Cut and Paste the downloaded file from the Downloads directory and save it to the desired location. But then one would normally have a heap of files stored in the Downloads folder and you have to literally search for the file you want to copy.

Luckily Chrome has a way around it. One could easily change the Default location for Downloading Files. You could also have a prompt  to specify which directory you would like to save every time you download a file.

Steps for Changing Default Location

Downloads

  1. Goto the Chrome Menu located on the top right had corner.Downloads
  2.  Click on SettingsDownloads
  3. Click on “Show Advanced Features” .
  4. Scroll Down and look out for the “Downloads” section.
  5. Click on Change under “Download Location”.
  6. Specify the download location

And That’s it. Every time you save a file, it would get stored in the specified directory.

Steps for allowing a prompt for Download Location

  1. Goto the Chrome Menu
  2.  Click on Settings
  3. Scroll Down and look out for the “Downloads” section.
  4. Mark the Check box  “Ask where to save each file before Downloading“.

Now every time you download a file, chrome will ask you where exactly you would like to save the file.

Hope you found these tips useful 🙂
